What foods can cause the most weight gain?
When you think of food as FUEL you realize that all calories are not created equal. There are some foods that are proven to contribute to greater weight gain.
When you think of food as FUEL you realize that all calories are not created equal. There are some foods that are proven to contribute to greater weight gain.
Aside from the obvious culprits:
- soda pop (“full sugar” and reduced or zero sugars sodas are all not great)
Syrup and sugar laden lattes, frappes and frozen mochas can contain as much sugar as soda
Traditional ice cream is full of sugar and fat - you can make vegan versions that are less fat with natural sugars from fruit, add a low sugar healthy, clean protein powder or plain lactose free yogurt as alternatives
Many commercial pizza are high in fat, carbs, calories and highly processed meats. Not all pizzas are created equal and you can make homemade versions that are delicious and healthier (eaten in moderation)
Doughnuts and cookies
French fries and potato chips
Sugary cereals
Processed chocolate (there are many health benefits from dark chocolate with no sugar added)
Of course any of these things above in moderation or occasionally enjoyed on vacation or at special celebrations are totally fine - the trouble is when these become a regular or even daily go-to that they can quickly contribute to rapid weight gain and heart disease amongst other health related conditions.
Okay now that we have the main culprits taken care of - let’s talk about a few other foods to limit and reduce for health. This next category of foods can, and often are, hard for your body to tolerate. When we ignore the signs (like bloating, feeling unwell or nauseous) and continue to consume these foods we create an immune system response that, if we continue to consume, fires up our body long enough to create inflammation and can lead to weight loss resistance:
Gluten - what can I say that’s good about gluten? Not much! It raises insulin, leads to your body storing fat and can damage your gut wall enough to lead to leaky gut syndrome. Go gluten free is my best advice
Dairy - this is one of the top sources of food intolerances and sensitivities. Not sure if you are allergic to dairy? Symptoms to look for can include acne, gas, bloating, rosacea and sinus infections. Dairy, like gluten, can cause an increase in insulin resistance which can lead to weight gain. If you do have dairy - go lactose FREE.
Soy - lots of issues can result from using soy products (even though they are advertised as “HEALTHY” alternatives) including: damaging your gut health, mess with your sex hormones, can create problems wth the thyroid.
Peanuts - are high in histamine and one of the most common foods for allergens.
Sugar and artificial sweeteners - spike your blood sugar, playing havoc with how your body metabolizes insulin, can increase risk of developing SIBO, creates further sugar cravings, creates a negative loop where the sugar is feeding the bad gut bacteria (artificial sweeteners are brutal too). All sugars can lead to weight gain (sorry but them the facts and that is straight from a sweet tooth over here).
Corn - corn can be another super disruptive grain that can cause your blood sugar levels to spike and is tied to insulin resistance.
These are the main products we encourage our Gut Reset Be Well Club Members to eliminate for 30 days to give your body a break and, release fat!

Healthy aging hack…
In a world obsessed with short term fixes to aging on the outside… we can overlook the importance of developing a few simple steps that will help us build up habits of “prevention” from diseases and illnesses that present themselves as we age.
In a world obsessed with short term fixes to aging on the outside… we can overlook the importance of developing a few simple steps that will help us build up habits of “prevention” from diseases and illnesses that present themselves as we age.
I learned the concept of Longevity (length of life) lifespan vs Health Span (quality of life) on a podcast with Dr Peter Attia. I love this!
The idea is that life isn’t about aging with a poor quality of life in which cognition, and physical ability are terrible. Health span speaks to the quality of our life - the things we are able to do, how happy and fulfilled we feel and the quality of our relationships. THIS is the goal for me.
I think about my mom, who died so young, just 53 years old. Although she was fit and tried to look after herself the one key component of this triad that suffered was her relationships. She had multiple, close, relationships that were strained and very challenging. So much of this has informed how I look at the people closest to me in life, family and work and in some cases, to make tough decisions to limit exposure or detach from toxic people. Having witnessed first hand the unbelievable amount of stress that puts on a persons well being, has overridden my desire to “please other people” at the risk of my own health.
There are 3 key areas to focus on are in establishing great health span which is about early prevention vs waiting until you are in your 40’s or 50’s and things mount up and multiply.
Cognitive function - this equates to brain health. One of the leading causes of death is neurological conditions like Alzheimers, dementia, Parkinson’s. One of the main things that leads to cognitive decline is vascular (heart) disease. We can do many things to set up early “prevention.” We do have some control over behaviours we can modify. Some healthy things we can do to prevent brain degeneration includes, reducing: smoking, alcohol, sleeping (7-9hrs), reducing head injuries and high blood pressure. Working out and lifting heavy weights or walking with weights (rucking) can decrease muscle loss and help boost brain health.
Physical health - what is your mobility as you age? What is your strength and balance like? How is your physical health and weight? Much of this can be prevented with healthy food choices, focusing on gut health, increasing protein intake at every meal to help build muscle and increase physical exercise - especially weight training and resistance.
Emotional health deterioration - what is the state of your relationships? The “quality of our life is the quality of our relationships.” How much joy and purpose do you have in your life? Are you happy - do you have the capacity to regulate your emotions? Are you surrounded by loving, supportive partners, family, friends and colleagues? Choosing to create healthy boundaries and enrich your current relationships are crucial to securing good emotional health.
Prevention is a great MOTIVATION to begin to implement healthy habits, healthy eating and exercise.

Bagels or protein for breakfast?
For much of my adult life I would grab a bagel and cream cheese or eat a fast bowl of cereal for breakfast. I would be absolutely starving mid-morning and have very little energy.
For much of my adult life I would grab a bagel and cream cheese or eat a fast bowl of cereal for breakfast. I would be absolutely starving mid-morning and have very little energy.
Breakfast for me, was when I first woke up (regardless of when my last meal was). It was the things I had been “sold” as the idea of breakfast (cereals from TV commercials engrained in my thinking) which I later learned weren’t serving my body at all.
Since peri-menopause at 47 and now 7 years on the other side of menopause, with my body continually shifting, I have done a deep dive into learning more about the specific ways to INCREASE health, maintain a healthy weight as hormones shift, and lengthen HEALTHspan.
The latest data and research that is focusing specifically on the unique aspects of menopause for women are showing the importance of increasing clean, lean protein especially as we age.
In fact, a PubMed article about a phenomenon called “the protein leverage hypothesis” suggests that our natural instinct is to crave protein, and that we will keep eating, actually overeat carbs and fats, if we don’t get enough protein at each meal, which can lead to obesity over time.
What does protein do for our bodies?
Protien increases your satiety - making you feel fuller for longer
It feeds, repairs and builds muscle (which we especially need as we age)
It actually boosts your metabolism and increases the amount of fat you burn
Protein serves to help fight infection and inflammation as it boosts the immune system
It keeps bones strong and supple ( important to prevent sarcopenia - the gradual loss of muscle mass, strength and function which greatly impacts your quality of life and reduces your ability to perform daily tasks)
It helps keep your body fit & fluid as you age
Hormones and your body’s natural chemical messengers - your neurotransmitters, use protein as a building block
Because protein is made of amino acids which act like building blocks to the body - it gives your body the necessary amino acids to help repair and recover
It is a “thermic food” meaning it requires more energy to break down in your body than carbs or fats which means your body will burn more calories which will help your body release weight
How much protein should you consume?
On average you want to eat .7 to 1 gm of protein per pound of your ideal weight.
So if your ideal weight is 125 lbs, you want to aim for 87.5-125 grams of protein per day divided up throughout your meals with the largest amount recommended at breakfast (at least 30 grams of Protein/ meal)
Why should you load up on protein at breakfast?
You body naturally craves protein in the morning. Loading up with a high protein meal at breakfast will help to stabilize your blood sugars (super important to reduce inflammation), increases your metabolism, assists in giving you great energy and focus, and sets you up to make healthier food choices throughout the day because you are more satiated so you won’t be craving carbs and sugars.
Best protein sources should be clean and NON-GMO. If you are eating animal meats be sure they are non antibiotic, grass fed, NOT fed corn or soy.
My go to breakfast is a protein bowl with Lactose Free Greek yogurt (18 gms of protein per serving)
20gms of a clean vegan protein powder (click here for my go to brand - currently obsessed with strawberry)
Loaded with seeds and nuts: Sunflower sees, pumpkins seeds, pistachios, hemp seeds and flaxseeds
With about ½ cup of blueberries (powerful antioxidants)
It’s beneficial to take a symbiotic probiotic with digestive enzymes along with your protein to help increase absorption.
Since increasing my protein significantly not only have I been able to manage my weight (post menopause), I have no belly fat and more energy, I feel stronger and less tired and I can go 3-4 hours between meals without having graze constantly.
I hope this provides you with a better understanding of this simple shift you can make in your daily consumption of protein and reap all the wild and amazing benefits this provides.
Check out my gut reset program that includes protein or send me a message. Here to help serve you on your beautiful wellness journey.

How to Get A Grip on Menopause Changes
When I entered the peri-menopause phase of life I was so confused and bewildered.
My body was changing
My energy was changing
My waist line was changing
MY energy level was changing
When I entered the peri-menopause phase of life I was so confused and bewildered.
My body was changing

UGH!!! The things I did - how I ate and worked out that had always kept me looking and feeling healthy - suddenly wasn’t working anymore!
Anyone else felt utterly confused by what you read about “diet” “weight loss” “menopause” and the like?
I dove in to learning what I could and everywhere I looked - I was reading about the importance of eating in a “calorie deficit” and killing yourself with cardio!
NONE OF WHICH I ever did - nor is it the healthiest choice.
What I have discovered to be true at 54 years of age, is that you have to get rid of the old outdated ideas, adjust what you are doing (that has perhaps worked to keep you healthy until peri and post menopause) and stick with a few key factors:
1. Consider adding up to about 200 calories to your daily intake (DO NOT go into an extreme caloric DEFICIT) so your body stops HOLDING on to weight (especially around your mid section) & causing your metabolism to actually slow down!
2. STOP KILLING YOURSELF with crazy cardio - switch it out for lifting weights & resistance training to build muscle & actually burn more fat! You can do short S.I.T. workouts (SIT involves short bursts of high intensity exercise interspersed with low-intensity aerobic recovery intervals. SIT has been demonstrated effectiveness as time efficient method of improving insulin sensitivity and physical fitness)
3. Increase your Protien intake at every meal. (A mix of plant based protein - I use a high quality source of protein powder in my yogurt, protein balls and shakes as well as high quality fish and meats0
4. Get quality sleep! 7-9 hours per night (I’ve had a lot of work to do in this area - I didn’t always sleep much but I’ve made a huge effort this whole year so far to get my 7-9 hours) - Ashwaganda is a great adaptogen to use before bed.
5. Reduce your stress! Clear out any toxic relationships. The havoc stress creates on your body especially post-menopause is serious stuff so don’t take this lightly.
6. Get your mind set right. Speak lovingly to yourself - about yourself. Your body is listening to everything you think & say. Get this right and you’ll see and feel a big change.
7. Take a synbiotic probiotic to help keep your gut health regulated (it is where much of your hormones are regulated)
Plus a few more simple lifestyle habits to stay your healthiest as you age.

What is Metabolic Health & Why is It Important?
At 54 years of age, and well-underway on my health journey, I am learning so much about healthy aging and well being from a scientific standpoint. We are living in such a great era when science and new studies are allowing us to fully understand not only how we can make healthier choices, perhaps more importantly, WHY it’s important to do so.
Aging is such a beautiful time of wisdom and change.
There is a health epidemic that is being studied more than ever… Metabolic Health Syndrome.
A 2019 study revealed that 88% of American adults had at least one feature of Metabolic Syndrome.
There are 5 key markers of metabolic health:
1. blood sugar,
2. triglycerides,
3. HDL cholesterol,
4. waist circumference
5. blood pressure
Improving any one of these key markers can lead to improved metabolic health & more importantly, help 𝓹𝓻𝓮𝓿𝓮𝓷𝓽 future disease. Left unchecked - these markers can indicate that your body isn’t able to respond to food in a beneficial way that reduces your risk of conditions such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. All of which we have control over. We can CREATE different health outcomes by making conscious choices that lead to a sustainable healthy life!
I remember in my early 40’s feeling:
🤪I had years of inconsistent, low energy
🤪Years of living in stress & bloating (not paying as much attention to healthy eating)
🤪Living on bagels & cream cheese into my 40’s for b/f & a sandwich for lunch with no regard for how to properly fuel my body (ie: increase protein)
By making simple NEW & improved DECISIONS and CHOICES we can create a better quality of life, experience increased energy and out self respect, live with a greater focus on prevention & metabolic health.
Having lost my mom when she was JUST 53 was devastating. It is, in part, what drives me to understand health and help as many people as possible to live healthy, long lives.

5 Tips for Transformation
In my twenties and thirties I didn’t fully grasp the meaning of transformation.
I had definitely experienced life changes that “transformed” me… like experiencing bankruptcy with my family when I was seventeen followed months later by my mom’s breast cancer diagnosis; losing my mom when I was twenty nine, and the birth of our first born with a genetic condition when I was thirty.
By sheer necessity and WILL I was transformed by these events because in many ways I had no choice. Life changed so dramatically that I was forced to transform in order to survive.
But the transformation I have been experiencing over the past decade, and more so, the past three years, is the kind of voluntary personal transformation that is self initiated in order to attain a greater level of overall well being and peace.
Ironically, it feels like there is neither well-being, nor peace while you are in the trenches of this kind of growth. It’s demanding and humbling and raw and honest, but I can say that it truly leads to a state of peace, love and harmony.
A few key factors I have noticed in my own transformation have been the following:
Take 100% responsibility for my own behaviour in relationship to myself and with those around me. No one is perfect but always defaulting to “what could I have done better in that situation?” allows you to finesse and fine tune your interaction with others, while also being quick to apologize honestly when you mess up.
Becoming more effective with my language and thinking (being impeccable with your word as the book the Four Agreements states). Choosing words that are honest, kind and empowering in every situation forces you to slow down in your responses and be more mindful.
Acknowledge that you don’t know everything and you never will - which leads to the humbling recognition that you will ALWAYS be a student of life, learning something new daily. That sets you up to look for ways to be better and not in a way that nothing is ever good enough, but rather, in a way that keeps you in a healthy growth mindset as a CHOICE and as a way of life (which is actually very liberating).
Set healthy boundaries for yourself around people whose behaviour is toxic, those people that are not willing to take responsibility for anything. These people will leave you feeling depleted, continuously create drama, and blame everyone and everything for their issues. We teach people how to treat us and this has been a huge lesson for me in my adult years. Creating healthy boundaries has been very difficult in some relationships but in the end, not being a punching bag for other peoples lack of personal accountability and subsequent projection, has given me greater internal peace. And in my mid 50’s peace is the path!!
Committing to reading, learning, listening daily to new people, thoughts, ideas in order to expand my level of understanding and awareness is a brilliant default way to live that keeps me in growth mode and hungry to learn daily.
These are the top 5 that come to mind.
What are areas of transformation you have experienced that have helped you on your path to becoming a better version of yourself daily?

Choose to Make Life an Adventure
In every moment we have the chance to look at life as an epic adventure.
I’m not talking about a YOLO (you only live once) approach to life where you make choices without consideration for the negative consequences or people who could get hurt by your choices.
In every moment we have the chance to look at life as an epic adventure.
I’m not talking about a YOLO (you only live once) approach to life where you make choices without consideration for the negative consequences or people who could get hurt by your choices.
I’m talking about an approach to life where you recognize that the choices you make can have significant POSITIVE consequences in the form of memories you want to remember over and over. Read more books to learn about new things or how to do things better, say yes to more adventures, and try new things you can look back on and smile proudly about. Memories are the beautiful remnants of our personal history, that live on forever. They are the things that get passed down through generations, shared at gatherings with friends, and even told as inspirational stories to inspire others.
Adventures aren’t just about traveling to far distant lands for weeks or months at a time, adventures can be inward, learning more about yourself, taking full responsibility of your life and where you are currently, deciding to change your circumstances because you supersized the future vision of your life, so that you can be the best version of you… so that you can be someone you feel proud of for all the growth and transformation you have undergone.
Adventures can also be on the home front, spending time getting reacquainted with your partner, your spouse, your children, and your family. Really seeing them with a heart full of gratitude, listening to them, making more time for fun and play together, and paying attention to the thoughtful things they do and the joy they bring your life.
Choosing to see life in all of these areas above as an adventure can literally shift the meaning AND the OUTCOME of your existence in a very magical way.
Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

The Power of Knowing Yourself
I just listened to a great podcast by Andrew Huberman - one of my new fave podcasts called Huberman lab. He’s a neuroscientist who talks about everything from brain functions, to the effects of alcohol on your brain (I haven’t drunk alcohol in 14 years and my husband and kids don’t drink either) to the negative effects of porn on bonding and so much more.
His podcast and all the amazing podcasts I listen to and books I read for that matter are vehicles for me to understand myself and those I love and work with better, and a way for me to make refinements in my lifestyle choices that allow me to level up in mental, physical, emotional, sexual health - something that is a priority for me. I am in my mid-fifties and I want to experience maximum energy, vitality, passion, harmony, love, and success in all areas of my life.
This personal growth journey has taken me on a deep dive to know myself, to know my husband and my children. The cool part is that we are all learning together. We all listen to and watch podcasts that inform, educate and enlighten us, and multiple times a week we have amazing conversations about what we are learning, and we share podcasts and books with one another.
I have learned so much from my daughters who are so well-informed about mental health and who know themselves so well for their young ages, far better than I knew myself in my twenties. Never think that because you are older than your children they have nothing to teach you. Remain open, communicate and be humble. Our relationship with our girls is such a gift and I am so grateful for their friendship, their insights, and all the countless ways they have pushed my husband and I to be our best.
As I come to understand myself better, I understand my husband better, and our relationship grows deeper in connection. That has brought us closer than ever.
If personal growth isn’t part of your day and you struggle in any area of your life, I strongly encourage you to listen to a podcast or read a book. Start with something that intrigues you, or something you feel is a challenge for you so you can learn to overcome it.
The beautiful thing about us humans and our brains is that we are malleable - we are capable of growth and change, metamorphosis and transformation. In fact, change and growth are hard-wired into us. We are MEANT to grow. It is truly the most magnificent and humbling experience to look into your own soul, take responsibility for where you are, and commit to the journey of developing into the best, highest version of yourself. Not only does it change YOU, but it also changes your relationships with others for the better.
I want to look back over my life and see the transformation and the ripple effect that had on the people in my life. To know that the example I set for my loved ones and colleagues inspired them to grow as well. And just like a great movie, I want to track the character growth and know that the legacy I left was the best I could make it. That is WORTH investing my time and energy into. YOU are worth the investment into understanding yourself.
If anything I have shared here inspired you to begin your own personal growth journey, please shoot me a message I have a library of books on a variety of topics I would be happy to recommend to you.
Grateful to be on this journey with you! I BELIEVE IN YOU!
Thank you for being here.

Create more moments
My hubby and I are on our way back from a beautiful trip to Maui, Hawaii that was half business and half pleasure. I was invited to attend the annual leadership retreat with a few hundred of the top leaders in my company from around the globe.
I have heard that this retreat is “magical” because of the location. Maui is thought to be on a fault line that is a window to miracles.
Jeff and I went a few days early and stayed on the north shore before the conference started on the other side of the island at the Hyatt Regency. We rented a car so we could explore during our downtime.
It’s hard to put into words what we saw, and how we felt - in short, the “experience” of Maui. From the coastline views of the majestic mountains against the beautiful blue ocean, we could see humpback whales and their babies making the journey from Alaska back to Maui in the harbor, prehistoric-looking sea turtles on the beach and swimming in the ocean, surfing and kiteboarding (for my hubby), we even got to see a handful of professional surfers take on Jaws - one of the worlds largest waves that only happens a couple of times a year. And there was the training, the inspiring community of incredible men and women I am so honored to have the privilege of working with and a luxury, certified BCorp company and brand of wellness products that have not only changed my health, the business has changed my life and I am so proud to be a part of it all.
Jeff and I both had this realization that life is short and time goes by fast and all we have in the end are experiences that create moments.
You don’t have to go to Maui to create moments, you can create them every day in your regular life. Stay awake and aware of your days and how and who you spend them with. Get off the mundane cycle of the rat race if you aren’t fully alive and LOVING what you are doing and where you are going. Create a legacy life that you can look back on and be proud of. Live with intention and most importantly a heart full of gratitude for all the blessings you have in your life - including breathing in your lungs today.
Create moments - like beautifully hand-crafted chapters of an amazing novel starring YOU as the hero!
This is YOUR life - make this YOUR year!
Grateful to be on this journey with you! I BELIEVE IN YOU!

I Didn't Know That About You - Learning New things About Your loved Ones
My eldest daughter is a voracious learner. I have always admired her dedication to understanding herself so she can not only be her BEST but show up in relationships with others as her best as well. She began her journey at 14, digging deep into learning. She has continued her self-growth journey every day since then.
My eldest daughter is a voracious learner. I have always admired her dedication to understanding herself so she can not only be her BEST but show up in relationships with others as her best as well. She began her journey at 14, digging deep into learning. She has continued her self-growth journey every day since then.
It’s incredibly forward-thinking and selfless to behave this way from such a young age. Not only has it inspired me beyond measure, but I have learned so much from her, about her and others in my life. Knowledge truly is power, and understanding ourselves, true self-awareness, and responsibility for ourselves - is liberation.
One of the important revelations she made was learning that she is an HSP - A Highly Sensitive Person. There are beautiful qualities that come with this, but sometimes, living AS an HSP or WITH an HSP can be confusing and challenging.
You may question yourself and be overly critical of yourself simply because you can’t put words to feelings and emotions that feel as though they take over you.
Understanding WHY you may respond to things with, what often appears to those closest to you, as irrational intensity and emotion allows us to better “KNOW THYSELF,” while also allowing your family to know you. This awareness, creates both peace and harmony, two incredibly important things in our home (although there have been times, a year ago, that peace and harmony was not the predominant energy).
My daughter shared what she was learning with me, as she processed the information which inevitably helped her settle down from judging herself so harshly, loving the qualities of an HSP that she could see as strengths, rather than weaknesses and it shifted the dynamic in our home. I remember thinking, “I didn’t know that about you. I am so grateful to know this and I love you for it.”
My husband, as it turns out, is also an HSP. And when my daughter first suggested this, then sent me a movie about it to watch with my husband, we were both dumbfounded and enlightened all at the same time. How could he have reached the age of 52 without this understanding? A veil was lifted and so many things, including many of our conflicts, suddenly become crystal clear.
Learning this about my daughter and husband has given me a new appreciation for them, a new understanding of them, and an even deeper love for them.
My encouragement to you is to get to really know yourself. Study yourself for a few days, and ask yourself why you think you do what you do. Do you have big goals & visions for yourself that allude you? Peeling back the layers of self-awareness can literally set that glorious masterpiece that is YOU - FREE!!!

We are all Connected
On my morning walk the other day, in the solitude of being alone with my thoughts, I shifted to an intense awareness of the world outside my mind. I saw the bare trees in the forest, with few hints of color in the dead of a warm winter’s day.
On my morning walk the other day, in the solitude of being alone with my thoughts, I shifted to an intense awareness of the world outside my mind. I saw the bare trees in the forest, with few hints of color in the dead of a warm winter’s day.
I was thinking of some of the challenges I had been dealing with over the holidays and the sadness of missing family… and at that moment my focus was directed toward two trees tangled together as one. A larger one, that looked healthy and strong, with a smaller thinner trunk leaned fully against it, branches growing up around the trunk of the larger tree, as though it was hugging it - leaning on it for strength.
I slowed down and took a picture. Then walked a few feet, only to see a beautiful sight of multiple trees to the right, all separate, growing in the formation of a circle, yet growing together. The branches in this community were so interwoven that it was hard to see where one tree started and the next ended. It was a beautiful, awe-inspiring sight.
At that moment I was taken out of my own thoughts and immersed in the awareness that we are truly all connected in life. At times we are the big sturdy tree - providing strength and support. At other times we are all playful soulmates, taking up equal space, but still connected together in a harmonious dance.
This felt inside me like a reminder to be kind to one another
A reminder to be kind to ourselves
A reminder that we are all connected in the dance of life
Take time to stop, get out of your thoughts, look around you and truly acknowledge the beauty of nature and how its own stories align with the very nature of human beings.
There is power in walking outside, in nature, and connecting to the beauty around you - for your mental health, to ground you and bring you back to magic and miracles that are always around us, and to tune in to the universe that holds us safely.
Grateful to be on this journey with you! I BELIEVE IN YOU!

Those “high vibers” I am referencing are my fellow book club members! Other like-minded people who share a common interest in personal development and a growth mindset.
Over the past few years, I have run a book club almost every single month, focused on non-fiction, personal growth, mindset and business books! From 6 - 24 people attending, all reading, discussing and sharing ideas and personal relevant stories from the book, chapter by chapter, as we learn from one another and grow together.
The power of a book club is that you aren’t JUST reading the book, putting it aside and then on to the next book. You are talking about HOW you are incorporating the learnings from each chapter along the way, into your daily life.
What I love abut this is that learning and growing is an ACTIVE process. The book itself doesn’t change you, knowledge alone isn’t power. It is the application of knowledge, that changes you.
A few of the benefits of BOOK CLUBBING for me include:
Community and Connection with others
Exhilaration of learning new tools to become the best version of you
Developing new skills for thinking, manifesting, running a business
Expanding your awareness
Being exposed to a variety of authors with both similar and different approaches to life
Sense of fulfilment in reading and learning
Developing a new understanding and awareness of other peoples ability to overcome hardship and grow
Respect and empathy for others
Being of service to others through shared stories
The Joy of Book Clubbing is exhilarating! I leave every call feeling uplifted.
If you haven’t been part of a book club before, I highly recommend it.
If you want tips on my top book choices (I have read hundreds of books) send me a message I’d be happy to share.
If you want advice on how to start a book club of your own send me a message.
Grateful to be on this journey with you! I BELIEVE IN YOU!

I Turned 54 + My Philosophy
I am back after an absolutely crazy few weeks including; emergency surgery (appendectomy for my daughter), business conferences and medical appointments.
Stress was high but so was learning and inspiration.
As is always the case… life was a mix of challenges, celebrations and emotions on both ends of the spectrum.
Have you ever had those weeks that you are just grateful to have BEHIND YOU?
Amidst it all… I had a birthday celebrating turning 54!
I didn’t expect this one to feel like a milestone but it does.
My beautiful mom passed away at 53 from colon cancer, that started as breast cancer (at 41). So 53 felt emotional to me in many ways. It was a realization of just how YOUNG my mom was when I hit her age with so much life and so many dreams and goals in sight for myself.
But 54 - that’s a whole new level of feels. It’s a major BONUS year, compared to what my mom had, and with it, I have some reflections, declarations and commitments to myself.
Here is the philosophy I am choosing to live by in my 54th year:
Life is a gift to be celebrated
Create a legacy life you can be proud of
Be kind
Set healthy boundaries around anything/anyone that is toxic
Take full responsibility for your life
Workout consistently
Stay youthful and vibrant
Nourish your body with healthy foods & clean supplements
Use good skincare
Choose happy thoughts
Tell those around you that you love them daily
Take note of all the things you have to be grateful for every morning and night
Aim for a big beautiful life and be courageous in creating it
Believe in yourself
Encourage others to believe in themselves
Laugh so hard you cry at least once a week
Enjoy downtime with your loved ones
Believe in Miracles
Read, listen, learn daily
Love with your whole heart
Be silly, playful and fun
This year ahead is going to be FILLED with MIRACLES and WONDER, LOVE, LAUGHTER, GIVING BACK, DREAMING BIGGER and JOY!
I am going to give it my all and fill another chapter of my life story with the very BEST experiences.
Stay safe and stay healthy my friends and appreciate this journey of life… it truly is a gift!
What has been your favourite year to date? Which points above resonate for you? I would love to hear from you.
Grateful to be on this journey with you! I BELIEVE IN YOU!
Thank you for being here.
Never forget one person can make a difference…. that one person is YOU.

Do You Know Your Love Language?
For anyone who has been married or is married - you KNOW all to well what is required to make it WORK! In my experience, marriage delivers one of the most challenging, exhilarating and life-changing relationships with all of its intimate complexities.
I just celebrated my 28th wedding anniversary.
We have survived ups and downs, highs and lows, deaths and births, health issues, career changes and more.
Through it all, we have remained united and committed to working on OURSELVES - taking responsibility for our own growth AND a commitment to our partnership to make it strong, loving, passionate and respectful.
For anyone who has been married or is married - you KNOW all too well what is required to make it WORK! In my experience, marriage delivers one of the most challenging, exhilarating and life changing relationships with all of its intimate complexities.
It’s remarkable to even conceive that two people from two totally different upbringings and two different sets of life experiences can make a marriage last. Yet, it IS the most magical thing when you can treat this relationship and bond as the gift that it is. The ability to heal together, to grow together and to push each other to become the best version of yourself by showing up fully and completely, is truly amazing.
One of the best things we learned years ago, was love languages.
“The 5 Love Languages The Secret to Love That Lasts” by Gary Chapman is a MUST-read! Essentially, you each need to know what your love language is and identify the love language of your partner. Then you need to deliver the love language that your spouse requires to him/her and vice versa. That means you don’t speak YOUR love language or judge your partner on your love language but rather THEIRS.
My husband and I both share the love languages of “quality time” and “physical touch” but my husband additionally appreciates “acts of service” whereas I love “words of affirmation.” Without knowing this critical information we tend to deliver on what WE WANT which leads to miscommunication and feeling unseen. It’s far less complicated than we make it and so many of our challenges disappeared when we became aware of this nugget of gold. Check out a short video my husband and I made on how this knowledge transformed our marriage.
The 5 Love Languages:
Acts of Service
Receiving Gifts
Quality Time
Words of Affirmation
Physical Touch
I highly recommend both you and your partner take the quiz and discuss the results and what was highest for each of you, then adjust yourselves accordingly.
I love learning and growing daily, and my marriage gets equal attention to that commitment to growth, which has led to a deeply passionate and enriching connection that just keeps getting better and better with time.
As Psychotherapist, Ester Perel, says, “The quality of our relationships is the quality of our lives.” This is a critical relationship that ripples out and impacts our children and our children’s children for generations… it is worth working on collectively!
Grateful to be on this journey with you! I BELIEVE IN YOU!
I would love to hear your experience and understanding of love languages and how it has impacted your relationship.
Thank you for being here.

Gut Health & The Magic of the Microbiome
Gut health, gut health programs and our microbiome are all the buzz lately and for good reason!
Did you know that our microbiome is the epicentre of much of our health? In fact, 70-80% of our immune system is in our gut. Our gut health can also impact our energy levels, mood, brain fog and healthy (or not-so-healthy) skin.
“A troubled intestine can send signals to the brain, just as a troubled brain can send signals to the gut. Therefore, a person's stomach or intestinal distress can be the cause or the product of anxiety, stress, or depression. That's because the brain and the gastrointestinal (GI) system are intimately connected.” - Harvard Health
Needless to say, it’s important to get your gut health in check so you can maximize your overall health and well-being.
Here are 6 tips I follow to maintain a healthy gut:
Take a Synbiotic. This is a probiotic with a prebiotic (which is the food for the probiotic. They’re great for getting rid of bloating, adding billions of healthy bacteria to your gut, improving digestion and increasing regularity.
Drink lots of water. As warm/hot as you can - with lemon or lime. I had my first colonoscopy after m mom died of colon cancer when she was 53 and I was 29. After my colonoscopy, I got a letter to take home titled “How to have a healthy colon”. The top tip was to drink lots of HOT water throughout the day with lemon or lime to alkaline your system.
Move your body daily. We are made to MOVE. We live very sedentary lives today - working behind a desk or computer has contributed to increased obesity rates. Exercise, weights, and resistance training are all great. The most simple and effective thing you can do daily is walk! Walking outside is exceptional for body, mind and spirit and contributes to good mental health.
Avoid inflammatory foods & eat a healthy diet; especially alcohol, gluten, dairy & processed sugars. For most people, these foods cause inflammation. Even taking a break for 2 weeks or 30 days allows you to listen to your body by eliminating these inflammatory foods to see how your body responds (and how much better you feel).
Increase your fibre. Through sources of fibre including barley, chickpeas, lentils, berries, pears and more. A clean fibre supplement can be very helpful and an easy way to get your daily fibre.
Manage your stress. STRESS can do a number on your gut health. I know for me personally, I FEEL all of my stress in my stomach. According to the Mayo Clinic, stress left unchecked can contribute to a variety of health issues including high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity and diabetes. Ways to reduce stress that work for me include: meditating, affirmations, walking (number 3 above), reading, listening to positive and educational books on audio - podcasts and YouTube videos, managing boundaries with toxic people, and doing work that inspires and grows you.
Have you experienced any gut issues? If the answer is YES, then you are not alone!
Seven years ago I began to educate myself about gut health and make changes in my diet and I have felt my healthiest as a result. It’s a worthwhile investment in your overall health.

Finding Your Tribe
“Tribes is a self-help book about how to create and lead your own tribe—a group of people who are connected by a leader and an idea. Godin contends that, thanks to the ability to connect easily via the internet, there’s never been a better time to build a tribe (or step up to lead an existing one).”
In 2009, I was reading a book recommended by a colleague called TRIBES, by Seth Godin!
“Tribes is a self-help book about how to create and lead your own tribe—a group of people who are connected by a leader and an idea. Godin contends that, thanks to the ability to connect easily via the internet, there’s never been a better time to build a tribe (or step up to lead an existing one).”
At the same time, one of my best friends, Erika Heller, was battling colon cancer at the tender age of 31.
Up until this point, I had written 3 books, including 2 children’s books endorsed by Celine Dion to help raise awareness and funds for cystic fibrosis, a health condition my eldest was born with. I was wrapping up writing my last book about the power of womanhood BEYOND just what you look like or the size of your clothes. I was also rebuilding my marriage, while raising my 3 little girlies.
The most effective way for me to overcome my challenges, adversities and struggles, up until this point, was to channel my energy into something meaningful and BIGGER than me. Some way to help others.
Everything I did was “mission” and “purpose” driven!
Reading TRIBES spoke to my soul!
It put into words what I had felt deep inside.
It was short, to the point, easy to understand and it CHANGED MY LIFE!
It was this book that gave me the vision to launch a grassroots movement with a flashmob, in honour of my friend Erika.
I had NO online presence. NO following. NO Youtube. BUT I had a MISSION and a VISION to unite 1,000,000 people to recognize the amazing women in their lives for who they were (just as Erika had demonstrated so effortlessly despite her cancer journey) and the challenges they had overcome with grace, class, dignity and resilience.
If you are feeling STUCK and uninspired in your life, being a part of something BIGGER than yourself, transforming your struggle into leading or joining a mission, a grassroots movement for the greater good, could help you feel connected and overcome your circumstances. It could in fact, as it has for me time and time again, TRANSFORM YOU!
Responding to our life circumstances with leadership in this way, confirms the adage, that things don’t happen TO US, they truly do happen FOR US.
Today, that little grassroots movement has almost 4 million views on YouTube, has been duplicated around the world from Japan to Germany, Bijeljina to California and beyond. It was written up in the HUFFINGTON POST and many other blogs and amassed over 13,000 people sending messages to the AMAZING WOMEN in their life.
LEARNING can change your life!! Stepping into your leadership can change your life! Reframing your adversity can change your life! We are made for more!
I am reading “Tribes” AGAIN from new life experiences. I am ready for another epic adventure and the next chapter of this beautiful, more relevant than ever, grassroots movement. Stay tuned.
Share below ONE woman YOU BELIEVE is amazing and tag her to let her know how you feel… in the moment! We don’t do that enough!!

You Don’t JUST Become Who you are Surrounded By…
You have no doubt heard the quote by motivational speaker Jim Rohn: “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” He went on the say that, “The people you spend the most time with shape who you are.”
To add more significance to this statement, based on the Framingham Heart Study that has spanned over 30 years and studied the breadth of social influence on a variety of aspects, the study concluded that not only are you influenced by the people in your inner circle, you are ALSO influenced by the people in your inner circle’s - inner circle. From obesity and heart health to smoking and many more factors, including the ever elusive “happiness” - our social networks play a major factor.
The study demonstrates the powerful impact of our social networks and how things become not only acceptable but normal amongst friends and family. For example, if your spouse is obese, your likelihood of becoming obese is 37%. If your friend is obese however, your likelihood of becoming obese shoots up to 171% likely.
It’s safe to say we have all experienced the impact of our friends on our lifestyle choices, habits, choice of music, style of dressing & appearance and more, in both good and bad ways. I have seen people change to heavy drinking, hanging out at strip joints, partying, using drugs and more.
Take an honest inventory of your friends and what you are doing with them the majority of the time? Do you drink and gossip every time you’re together? Neither of which feels good. If you notice a downward spiral in how you feel and you and your friends are getting increasingly complacent, unhappy, letting go of health standards… it may be time for you to make some difficult decisions and set some healthy boundaries while you actively seek out and create a new healthier social network.
Look for people talking about ideas, working on progressive projects that get them ahead, people that are reading books and listening to podcasts that grow and expand their minds… those are the people who will influence you positively to grow, encourage your to try new things and even help to improve your feelings of happiness and self worth.
I teach my daughters this concept. My husband and I have experienced it on both fronts (unhealthy and healthy) friends and family, we can’t escape this truism. Fortunately, we play a role in our destiny by consciously choosing a better community tone surrounded by. IF you are committed to living a healthy, happy, successful life… the data proves it’s a non-negotiable!
Personally, my stress levels drastically decreased, my health rapidly increased, my marriage improved exponentially and my business took off - all when I got honest about who I was surrounding myself with, did some necessary editing-out of toxic people, and became super intentional with what I wanted my life to look and feel like and who I allowed in my inner circle.
I feel grateful to be surrounded by the most amazing family and friends I have ever been surrounded by. It’s taken me a solid 53 years to sort through all the toxicity but it is sooo incredibly worth it. I hope sharing this info inspires you and reminds you that where you are currently is NOT you final destination.
Grateful to be on this journey with you! I BELIEVE IN YOU!

You can check out info on the amazing, enriched community of like minded entrepreneurs I am surrounded by through my work and learn more about my online business:
Our children are watching us!
The ONLY PROBLEM was I was freaking busy!
3 kids, a husband, a full-time job and then this extra business on top was a FULL schedule!
One of the MAIN things I did to maximize my time was that I started using my driving time (and I had a lot of it between my commute to work and driving the girls across the city to competitive dance classes) to LISTEN to self-development and business books on audio.
When I was a stressed out corporate executive, twelve years ago, my eldest was 11 and my twins 8 at the time.
I started my online business part-time, 10 hours/week, in the nooks and crannies of my life.
I realized that in order for me to BECOME the version of myself I needed to change my mindset by inputting NEW information and then implementing that new information.
The ONLY PROBLEM was I was freaking busy!
3 kids, a husband, a full time job and then this extra business on top was a FULL schedule!
One of the MAIN things I did to maximize my time was that I started using my driving time (and I had a lot of it between my commute to work and driving the girls across the city to competitive dance classes) to LISTEN to self development and business books on audio.
The first book I listened to was called The Slight Edge by Jeff Olsen! I must have listened to that for 3 or 4 months straight over and over again. The kids were in the car and initially they were not thrilled with the idea of having to listen to my CD OVER and OVER AGAIN!!!
But guess what happened over time?
I began to CHANGE, my business began to GROW, and my girls were absorbing the info like sponges.
They even made a few funny videos with the audio from the Slight Edge because they were so familiar with it (one of which I have included below for your amusement!)
All of that time spent listening in the car literally turned my car into a UNIVERSITY on wheels and shifted my thinking!
And you know what else happened…. my children’s young minds got moulded to believe they could do ANYTHING they set their minds to.
Today my three girls are working on creating TV shows and a production company together. It amazes me to hear them regurgitate what they have learned through both osmosis and observation, in part, by watching me learn and grow. My journey to achieve big goals, talking about what I was doing, and then actually following through and DOING IT - gave them the proof that they could do anything too.
So the next time you have a dream to start something new, or you want to transition into a new line of work, or pursue a passion project… adopt the “university on wheels” method to maximize your time, eliminate your excuses and GO AFTER your biggest best most beautiful life!
I am here to provide recommendations for books if needed! Just DM me. I have read hundreds!
Do you use car time to listen to podcasts, books on audio or personal growth materials? Share below.

We are Hard-Wired for Change
We are all hard-wired for growth
One of the most profoundly OVERLOOKED but LIFE CHANGING phenomena in the world is… to have a VISION for the highest, best version of your life AND then to get to work to make it your REALITY!
We are all hard-wired for growth & change!
One of the most profoundly OVERLOOKED but LIFE CHANGING phenomena in the world is… to have a VISION for the highest, best version of your life AND then to get to work to make it your REALITY!
Reflecting back to almost 12 years ago when I didn’t have a VISION for my life - I recall feeling foggy, unclear and restless. I was a corporate executive working 60 hours a week - driving 90 min to work and 90 min home. I was working in an industry that was NOT my area of INTEREST or expertise BUT I needed to help pay our mortgage, feed our small children and pay for their very costly competitive dance lessons. Who has, like me, ever taken a job just to collect an income?
Well there I was.
The challenge was that I was growing increasingly anxious about my lack of passion at work. I had no sense of fulfilment in my job. I only had 11 days off out the whole 365-days a year so I had to take a leave of absence just to attend my girls dance competitions. My eldest daughter has a health condition cystic fibrosis and I had to take her to Sick Kids every 3 months it was stressful, long days, and I would field calls and emails from work while trying to navigate the difficult tests and emotions my young daughter was undergoing. I wasn’t challenged in my job and while I worked hard, I only received a 2.5 % pay raise (which wasn’t even the cost of living) after 3 years of growing the business.
C-R-A-Z-Y!
When I learned that I could partner with an established luxury brand, with NO overhead or inventory AND build a business part time alongside all of my responsibilities, including my job, that lit a spark of HOPE inside my soul that I hadn’t felt in a really long time. HOPE that I could actually change my circumstances without giving up my job instantly - since I needed that income while I grew my eCommerce business.
The question asked of me when I first learned about the uncapped POSSIBILITIES of this eComm biz was…. “If you keep doing what you are doing now… where will you be in 5 years from now” got me thinking. I realized I didn’t have a VISION in my life. I didn’t have a plan! Up until that moment my plan was- maybe change companies in a few years. But I would still have someone else telling me how many vacation days I got, when to take lunch or when I was WORTHY of a raise!
The person presenting the business went on to say, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result!” Well I honestly think I was CRAZY to have done that for 20 years and ignored the growing pain of “quiet desperation” that weighed on me everyday from the moment I opened my eyes.
Okay so now let’s talk about VISION again. The definition of vision is… “the ability to think about or plan the future with imagination or wisdom.”
BOOM! Learning about a business that could allow me to CREATE a life by my own design, work it from my phone, help other people, get healthier and earn amazing money if I worked at it and gave it time…. that provided me with major WISDOM… and as author and poet Maya Angelou so beautifully said… “When you KNOW better you do BETTER.”
Learning about this alternative way to have flexibility in my life and career was the “BETTER” I had been longing for!
SO I jumped ALL In with my soul on FIRE!
I plugged in to the success of those around me.
I fell in love with the brilliant eComm industry, the products changed my health, I fell in love with this brand and I started to DREAM AGAIN! I will tell you something….it felt SO GOOD TO dream again! I saw success all around me from different ages 18-80 year olds, different backgrounds; doctors, lawyers, engineers, corporate executives, nurses, teachers, fitness enthusiasts, nutritionists, students and stay at home moms, and I began to cast a BIGGER VISION for myself, my family and the impact I could make by helping other people all over the world live their best lives!
Here is my take away:
Q: You want to have a good life? What should the AIM be?
A: Do something that’s worth doing. Live your life the way you want to live it.
You could become an inspirational example to others. Take the vision and possibility of a beautiful future and turn it in to something good. Your life doesn’t have meaning without an aim (mic drop right there!) As humans we need “meaning” to sustain us through the challenges and adversities that life will inevitably throw our way.
So if you feel an internal PANG for change… if you have that inner feeling of KNOWING that you are meant for MORE than your current circumstances… I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and create change! TRUST, KNOW & UNDERSTAND the truth that as human beings we are WIRED for growth and change!
You are going to be BETTER than OKAY with change - you are going to freaking SOAR!!!
Grateful to be on this journey with you! I BELIEVE IN YOU!
Thank you for being here.

The Power of Believing in Yourself and Others
What my mother said to me set me up for MASSIVE success throughout my life! She simply BELIEVED IN ME! She told me with loving kindness that with hard work and consistency I could accomplish ANYTHING and I BELIEVED HER!
When I was a young girl my mother told me that I could do ANYTHING I set my mind to.
I remember when Madonna first came on the scene and I was singing along to her song “BORDERLINE”. I said to my mom, “Wow she has such a great voice! Do you think I could ever sing as well as her?”
My mom (who had an AMAZING voice by the way) replied, “If you practiced and devoted time and energy to training your voice consistently - I think you could 100% sing like Madonna!”
Now let me be very clear, I DO NOT have a Madonna-quality voice - but what my mother said to me set me up for MASSIVE success throughout my life! She simply BELIEVED IN ME! She told me with loving kindness that with hard work and consistency I could accomplish ANYTHING and I BELIEVED HER!
That life lesson not only allowed me to accomplish countless BIG THINGS ... it allowed me to approach EVERYTHING I took on with her voice in my head and a heart FULL of unwavering confidence. My mom’s encouraging words allowed me to:
Create the first breast cancer awareness campaign in Walmart stores across the country in honour of my mom (who had breast cancer at 41) raising over $40,000 in our first year
Secure an endorsement from Celine Dion for 2 children’s books I wrote about my eldest daughter
Raise over $400,000 for Cystic Fibrosis (CF) from the sales of my children’s books (our eldest has CF)
Create a FLASHMOB to honour my friend who passed away from colon cancer at just 31 - even though I had ZERO online presence. I surpassed my goal of over 1,000,000 views globally and we are at almost 4 million views globally today
Build a successful 7-figure online business PART TIME alongside my full-time corporate job so I could transition out of corporate and be more present for my children
Reach the top 1% of growth in my business and coach hundreds to create successful businesses along the way
Get in the best shape in my 50’s and coach hundreds to reach their best health at every decade
I have passed this unwavering belief onto my own children who have accomplished BIG things, including launching a successful KICKSTARTER campaign and writing and publishing a novel when they were 19 and the twins 16… they are working towards HUGE goals now.
The reason I share this is because we are ALL capable of literally ANYTHING we set our minds to if we JUST BELIEVE in ourselves!
When we are unsure, or in a challenging situation… the difference in helping us reach our goals is often just ONE person believing we CAN!
It’s not surprising that the work I do today is coaching and mentoring entrepreneurs to build successful online businesses. I am saddened by the number of adults who lack confidence, self-esteem or belief in themselves. I think belief in ourselves is one of the greatest things we can possess.
Whether you are a parent, a sibling, a teacher, a friend, a business colleague… YOU have the ability to lift someone UP and believe in them! The ripple effect of this simple act of kindness is far-reaching!
In a world where we can ALWAYS find things to judge, condemn or criticize… KINDNESS and believing ONE PERSON CAN make a difference is a simple, FREE and legacy-creating gesture that we are all capable of exercising in our day-to-day lives. And you never know… YOU could be responsible for helping someone achieve unbelievable things in their life, simply by believing in them... and that is NO small thing!
Be kind to one another friends! It will come back to you tenfold AND it just feels really good!
With love,
Your friend,
Kimxo
